3D Opera

I saw this article about 'the world's first interactive 3D opera' in a recent edition of Time Out and thought it sounded like a wonderful idea for how to present a film with a magical feel to it.

Then at Monday's presentations Dan Walsh and Sam Brown both pitched their film ideas as installations and I thought they were really interesting ideas about how to get the audience right inside the presentation and maximise the effects of the films, in Sam's case the Camera Obscura and in Dan's the four dimensional room.

I have seen the four dimensional room idea done before in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride at Alton Towers where they use a cube with projections on all four walls, ceiling and floor to create the glass elevator, and hydraulics move the floor so that you feel that you are actually travelling as the screens / walls depict a passing scene.  I really like the idea of Dan's installation using rain as a possible fourth dimension.  To be put in the middle of a storm and have the real water underfoot would be amazing.
