Industry / Relevant Magazines

For years I have been a regular reader of various arts magazines and supplements, my favourites being the Culture section of the Sunday Times, Time Out and The Stage .  I regularly read The Stage, usually online nowadays, to find out what is happening in theatre circles (I used to write editorials for theatre programmes for theatres throughout the UK and several production companies, and my friend is a respected theatre director based in London), also I like to know what technological advancements are being made in staging productions, and also casting and crew updates and opportunities that are arising within the industry.  The Stage is also a great resource for facilities and contacts when planning a production, be it for stage or film.

I also love Time Out magazine, to which I am subscribed and have delivered each week (since it has changed it's distribution).

I spend a lot of time in London and am lucky that I get to see a lot of events, galleries, screenings, recordings and theatre.  Time Out has excellent events, arts, films and theatre sections all giving plenty of notice about upcoming events and exhibitions and interesting reviews of new shows.  Even if I am unable to attend an event it is often interesting to read about them as it can inspire ideas for films.  For example, in this weeks Time Out there is an advert for the Salon de Lumiere event at the National Portrait Gallery on 15th March, part of the Late Shift series.

I checked out the website and think this looks like a really good idea.  There are several rooms in which you can experiment with light, photography and film.  I really fancied going to the Lomography session but unfortunately I will be filming in Sheffield early the following day.  I think it would have been a good session to go to to see how light can be used in visually interesting ways and see how that could be used in set design.

Here is the list of activities for Salon de Lumiere taken from the NPG website at: http://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/lateshift/late-shift-extra/late-shift-extra-salon-de-lumire.php
